In line with the EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854), this page provides all relevant information regarding the data generated by our connected electrical products and related services.

We support our customers in exercising their rights to access and share data, while ensuring security, confidentiality, and compliance.

The EU Data Act establishes a comprehensive legal framework for accessing, sharing, and using data generated by con-nected products and related services within the European Union. Its scope covers manufacturers, service providers, and users—ensuring that data produced by digital devices and services is available and accessible under fair, reasonable, and transparent conditions. The regulation aims to foster innovation, enhance competition, and empower users by clarifying their rights to access and utilize data, while maintaining robust protections for privacy and security.

Under the EU Data Act, ABB will be Manufacturer of connected products or related services and may in some case act as Data Holder. 

The EU Data Act defines a Data Holder as the person or entity—such as a manufacturer, service provider, or another relevant party—that has the right, ability, and control to make data generated by the use of a connected product or related service available to others.

In practical terms, the Data Holder is the party that manages and oversees the technical means by which data is collect-ed, stored, and shared from connected devices or services, and plays a central role in facilitating fair and secure data access under the EU Data Act.

Your Rights Under the EU Data Act

As a user of our connected products or services, you have the right including, but not limited to:

  • Have access to pre-contractual Information notices of all Connected Products and Related services.
  • Conclude a Data User Licensing Agreement with the Data Holder.
  • Access the data generated by your use of our products/services (Your Data).
  • Receive Your Data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Authorize a third party to access Your Data on your behalf.
  • Request that we share Your Data with a data recipient, such as a service provider or independent repairer.

Our Approach to the EU Data Act

ABB is committed to full compliance with the EU Data Act, prioritizing transparency and customer empowerment. The company ensures that customers have reliable and secure access to the data generated by ABB products, supporting its responsible use across sectors. 

ABB’s approach includes:

  • ABB provides comprehensive pre-contractual Information Notices to ensure full transparency about what da-ta and how data is collected, processed, and protected under the EU Data Act.
  • All Information Notices on connected products or related services in scope and data are publicly available on our website: www.abb.com.
  • If you wish to submit a data access request or require further information, please contact our dedicated EU Data Act team by email at: eu-data-act@abb.com.
  • Please compare the wording of ABB’s standard Data User Licensing Agreement to understand ABB’s commit-ment to seek users’ license to use Your Data. There might be some adaptations depending on products or ser-vices, but the general principles are common across ABB.

How to Request Access to Your Data

We have established a dedicated communication channel for all data act requests under the EU Data Act, when you believe ABB is Data Holder of Your Data and you have any requested please contact:

For any request you need to represent and warrant that you have the authority to make the request, if applicable act on behalf of the company.

Please provide in email request including, but not limited:

  • Product name and serial number;
  • Proof of ownership or usage rights;
  • Type of data requested.
  • Company name
  • Existing Data Use License Agreement with ABB?
  • What time period requested?
  • Which data elements are requested?
  • One time request or ongoing?
