FAQ - Looking for jobs

You will find all current vacancies on our job search page.

We recommend that you create a job alert to receive email notifications when vacancies arise in your area of interest.

Our recruiters regularly search the database for suitable candidates. To be considered, create a profile and check the box "release your candidate profile to enable recruiters to access your data" on the "Send application" page.

Create a profile and go to the Job Agents section on the Overview page. Enter details of the job(s) you are looking for and we will automatically e-mail you relevant vacancies as they arise, at your chosen frequency.

You are welcome to apply for jobs in any country. However, often candidates are only considered if they offer unique skills or experience not found in the hiring country. Speaking the local language could be an advantage but is not mandatory, unless specified in the job listing.

Where applications are successful, employees from other countries will receive a local remuneration package.

FAQ - Recruitment process

Decisions are based on the candidate's job skills, experience, competencies and potential. In the case of two or more candidates who are equally suitable, hiring teams consider a number of factors including overall cultural fit within the organization.

Being fair and operating to the highest ethical standards is critical to the way we do business. We use valid, reliable processes and tools, focusing only on job-related skills, experience, competencies and potential.

All other factors, including but not limited to: gender, age, faith, political beliefs, nationality, sexual orientation, disabilities, race and cultural heritage, are irrelevant.

In some of the countries where we operate, government may require positive discrimination in favor of segments of society that are underrepresented in the workplace. ABB supports these initiatives.

For a successful application, you may need to provide the following information: 

  • CV / resume in Word or PDF format
  • Email address and contact details
  • Education and work experience
  • Language skills
  • Cover letter

Additionally, you may need to answer the following: 

  • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) related questions, for all positions based in the United States
  • Additional job-specific questions that support the screening process

Applications take 10 to 15 minutes, though this may depend on Internet speeds and the browser you use. The registration process and your first job application may take a bit longer. We suggest creating a profile and saving your details for faster applications in the future, meaning that you would only need to upload a customized cover letter, and answer any additional questions that may be required for the screening and evaluation process.

All of our jobs are published on the Careers section of our corporate website, and this is the primary channel for application. Alternatively, you may search and apply through social media platforms and various job boards. You may also meet us at various job fairs and professional events, or find our ads in print media – where application instructions will be provided.

Questions vary depending on the job you are being interviewed for; however, to find out more about how to prepare, read our interview hints section.

Yes, we always obtain explicit permission from the candidate before contacting references.

We welcome applications from members of the same family. However to ensure fairness and to avoid bias, we make sure that no employees are involved in any way in the recruitment of family members. In addition, no employees may have a reporting relationship (direct or indirect) to another family member. In practice, this means that family members do not work in the same department.

We recruit the majority of our people directly; however, we may occasionally use recruitment agencies, largely depending on local practice.

We do not request medical records. However, where necessary or required by law, medical clearance is obtained before an offer is finalized.
ABB will pay any and all associated costs. 
We do not carry out genetic tests.

After submitting your application, you will receive an immediate automated response confirming receipt. We strive to move candidates through the recruitment process in a timely manner. However, as we receive a large number of applications for each job, it may take from two weeks to two months before you are contacted with regard to next steps.

It takes around two to three months to complete the recruitment process. However, the timing may be impacted by various factors, including volatility of the business and market conditions.

In some countries, this is not possible for legal reasons. Elsewhere, when requested, we give direct and honest feedback to candidates who have been interviewed. It covers strengths, as well as reasons why they were unsuccessful.

Some people have received what appeared to be genuine offers of employment from ABB via e-mail, which turned out to be fraudulent. 

"Phishing", as this type of fraud is known, is an e-mail scam targeting many businesses and individuals worldwide. The senders are generally trying to obtain personal and/or bank information. They may also be trying to extract money for processing job applications or costs related to "work permits" or "visa working papers".

In other cases, candidates have been asked for payment to secure interviews or guarantee a job.

These e-mails may look authentic, with a company logo or convincing personal details taken from social networking pages. However, they have no connection with ABB and we never use these methods as part of our recruitment process.

FAQ - Technical issues

Click on "Forgot your password?" on the log in page. Enter the e-mail address used to register and click on "Request Password". You will be sent an e-mail with your username and a new password. We recommend that you copy and paste the new password to avoid making any mistakes. Please wait five minutes for the email to arrive, and check your junk mail folder before resubmitting your request.

You will need a new password to unlock your profile. Click on "Forgot your password?" on the Log in page. Enter the e-mail address used to register and click on "Request Password". Your profile will be unlocked and a new password will be sent to the e-mail address provided. We recommend that you copy and paste the new password to avoid making any mistakes.

A maximum of 10 files can be uploaded (including CV, education certificates, references, etc.), and the size of each file should not exceed 1 MB. If you have not exceeded either of these limits, then try to upload the documents again, using an alternative browser.

If files exceed the limit, upload the most important document – i.e., your CV – and forward the rest directly to the recruitment team once you have been contacted.

First, delete cookies in your browser, then restart your browser and try again. Using an alternative browser such as Chrome or Firefox may also resolve the issue. 

If you see the error message “HTTP Request Failed”, please contact technical_recruitment@abb.com.

Ensure that the correct password has been entered. Alternatively, if the account is locked after several failed attempts, it can be unlocked by requesting a new password. Click on the "Forgot your password?" link on the Log in page, enter the e-mail address used to register and click on "Request Password". The system will unlock your profile and send a new password. We recommend that you copy and paste the new password to avoid making any mistakes.

Your email address has already been registered in our system. Try to log in instead. If you do not know your password, click on "Forgot your password?" on the Log in page, enter the e-mail address and click on "Request Password". An e-mail will be sent with a new password. We recommend that you copy and paste the new password to avoid making any mistakes.

Each position has a unique Publication ID, displayed on the job listing, which the recruiter and candidates can use to identify a specific position. Click on the job title and scroll to display the Publication ID. These codes are a combination of letters (referencing the country) and numbers. They will look something like this: AU67379936_I1.

Once an application is submitted successfully, you will receive a confirmation email, and the application status shown in your profile will change from "Draft" to "In process". If your application is still marked "Draft", and you did not receive an email, there may have been a technical issue during submission. Please open the application and resubmit.

Our recruitment team will contact you in due course with further details about the progress of your application. You can also monitor changes to your application status, shown in your profile.

Once an application has been submitted, you can withdraw it but not cancel it. To do this: 

  • Go to your profile.
  • Under Applications, find the relevant application.
  • Click on "X” (withdraw) on the right.

This may occur when a job posting is no longer active.

If the application status is marked "Unsuccessful", the application was received. However you have unfortunately not been selected for the position on this occasion.

An unlocked (or “released”) profile means that your CV is retained in our talent pool, and our recruitment team may contact you with opportunities relevant to your experience. If your profile is locked, it is only visible to the recruiter who is processing that specific vacancy to which you have applied. You can change the status of your profile at any time: 

  • Log in to your profile.
  • Go to the Settings page.
  • Scroll down to the Profile Status section.

Click on one of the options:

  1. I would like to allow recruiters to access my profile in order to be considered also for other jobs that match my interests (unlocked profile).
  2. I would like to be considered only for the job(s) I applied for (locked profile).

To receive vacancies that match your area of expertise, you can set up a job alert on the Overview page of your profile, stating what you are looking for and how often you wish to be emailed.

  • Log in to your profile.
  • Go to the Profile page.
  • Replace the old e-mail address with the new one.

  • Log in to your profile.
  • Go to the Settings page.
  • Under "Do you want to change your password", enter both your old and new passwords.
  • The new password will be effective when you next log in.

  • Log in to your profile.
  • From the Overview page, go to Job alerts.
  • Click on "Add Job Alert" and follow the instructions.

  • Log in to your profile.
  • Go to the Settings page.
  • Go to "Delete profile" and confirm your decision.
