As the largest economy in the European Union (EU)*, Germany has significant influence in the context of energy transition. This highly industrialized country can drive change towards decarbonization, exemplified by the sustainable technologies integrated into ABB’s Mission to Zero factory in Lüdenscheid.
This weekend’s Berlin E-Prix places special emphasis on Germany’s renowned automobile, bus and trucking industries, which are at the cutting edge of the transition to electrification, in line with EU legislation to raise clean energy targets and increase energy security.
This legislation is forecast to reduce oil and gas demand across the EU by 15% from 2022 levels by 2030, and coal demand by 55%**.

The projects we highlight on these pages, using ABB technology and solutions, show how Germany is embracing the energy transition, from an electrified bus fleet in Hamburg to standard-setting factories.
Additionally we focus on ABB’s partnership with the Special Olympics and its role in promoting diversity and inclusion as a crucial pillar of sustainability.
