Enabling the energy transition: Power

The IEA reports the power sector is the single largest source of global greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for around 40 percent of all energy-related emissions in 2023. Traditional fossil fuel-based power plants are a major contributor, releasing harmful emissions during electricity generation.

The transition to a cleaner future requires innovative approaches for power generation, including the intelligent integration of renewables, alternative fuel sources such as green hydrogen and batteries.

Batteries

Energy storage plays a crucial role in enabling a higher penetration of renewables by storing excess energy and ensuring grid stability and reliability. Advanced battery and other storage solutions are important drivers of the energy transition.

Building a battery-powered future

Batteries are a bedrock of the energy transition. ABB's innovations are at the forefront of harnessing and optimizing battery technology, ensuring a cleaner, more electrified future for all.

Green hydrogen

Green hydrogen is a promising clean fuel option. Advancements in the green hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, transportation and use, can help unlock the value of green hydrogen, create scale and accelerate the energy transition.

Integrating renewables and fossil-free energy

Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydro and geothermal power – as well as nuclear power – offer more sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. Technological advancements are making it easier to harness distributed energy resources and integrate them into the grid, ensuring a cleaner, reliable energy mix.
