To enable a low-carbon society, we are taking action across our value chain. With our technologies, we empower customers to avoid emissions and ramp up renewables. To cut our own greenhouse gas emissions, we follow targets that are aligned with the Net-Zero Standard of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To go further, we work with our suppliers and partners.

In line with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard, we have submitted updated scope 1, 2 and 3 targets for 2030 and 2050 to the SBTi. We expect validation in 2024. This aligns with our status as a signatory to the SBTi's Business Ambition for 1.5°C.

Targets

In 2023, we established a new SBTi net-zero-aligned target to reduce our scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions. In this context, we enhanced the quality of our scope 3 reporting.

We are working with suppliers to reduce emissions, for example, by sourcing low-carbon copper. Additionally, we are providing suppliers with information on actions they can take to reduce their emissions, based on our own experiences across ABB. 

To enable us to deliver an 80% reduction in operational GHG emissions by 2030, we have also committed to achieving three initiatives of the Climate Group of global companies by 2030:

• Electrify our entire vehicle fleet (EV100)
  
• Source 100% of our electricity from renewable energy sources (RE100)
• Improve energy efficiency and productivity across our operations (EP100)

To calculate avoided emissions at our customer sites, we follow the latest guidelines of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Our technologies enable emissions avoidance in industry, transport, buildings, data centers and more.
