MNS-Up for data centers

Did you know…
...a power loss of just 15 milliseconds can cripple a data center?

A power loss that lasts even less than a blink of an eye, can disrupt data centers, which have become crucial to everyday life, ensuring, for example, access to social media, online shopping and digital payments. ABB has combined critical components of a power solution for data centers into a single product to maintain uninterrupted power flow, and continuous operations. To guarantee a level of almost constant availability the electrical network of data centers needs all kinds of equipment: switchgear, uninterruptable power supply (UPS), generators, transformers, and batteries. All this equipment creates a complex infrastructure that requires a lot of space. It is also challenging to upgrade, when the requirements of the data center change, for example if the amount of needed total power increases during the data center’s lifetime, or a reconfiguration of the IT infrastructure is needed.

ABB has merged two vital pieces of equipment for power supply into one: low-voltage switchgear and the UPS, to a product known as MNS-Up. Switchgear are composed of electrical switches, fuses or circuit breakers and are used to control and protect electrical equipment. Their reliability is directly linked to the reliability of the entire power supply system. A UPS system provides emergency power when the main input power source fails. With its modular design MNS-Up can easily adapt as a data center’s power needs increase. ABB’s MNS-Up is cost-efficient because all the components are installed in a single device, eliminating the need for multiple connections, therefore installing is faster and easier, and it comes with a smaller footprint.

Key facts:
  • CAPEX reduction up to 10%
  • Space savings up to 30%
  • Up to 20% faster installation and commissioning
