The world’s first truly collaborative robot

…that ABB introduced the world's first truly collaborative robot YuMi® in 2015?  

Collaborative robots are designed to work alongside humans on the factory floor to raise productivity and support the transition to mass customization. Collaborative robots are adept at adding flexibility to assembly processes that need to make small lots of highly individualized products, in short cycles.  

YuMi® can work side-by-side with people. Sensing an unexpected impact, such as a collision with a coworker, YuMi® can pause its motion within milliseconds, and the motion can be restarted again as easily as pressing play on a remote control.   

It has a compact body and requires no more space than a standard workstation for humans. It features lead-through programming, eliminating the need for specialized training for operators.
