Hiring manager specifies job requirements, including responsibilities, competencies, professional experience, and academic qualifications, as well as any other relevant information.
HR creates a job advertisement, which is posted on our website.
Candidates apply online and receive an automatically generated email that confirms receipt of application.


HR evaluates all applications and also reviews candidates who have previously registered with ABB. Profiles matching the requirements of the advertised position are selected to proceed to the next step.


Candidates participate in an initial interview, either face-to-face, or via teleconference. We are also experimenting with new technologies to allow for more flexibility for both candidate and hiring manager. For example, for web interviews, candidates receive an e-mail invitation with questions, and they can choose a convenient time and place to record their answers, using a video conference camera. Hiring managers then review the recordings.

In addition to discussing candidate experience, competencies and qualifications during the first interview, an HR representative will also focus on overall cultural fit within the organization.

ABB thoroughly trains all employees involved in recruitment to assess and select candidates objectively, and in line with recruitment principles.


Short-listed candidates return for an in-depth discussion with the hiring manager, during which both parties assesses suitability for the role and organization.

Within a reasonable time frame, ABB informs candidates of the outcome of their application. Where legislation allows, we provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates if requested.


ABB follows these steps prior to making a job offer:

  1. The hiring manager and HR agree on the terms and conditions of employment
  2. Academic and professional qualifications are verified
  3. Compliance checks are carried out (where necessary).
  4. Reference checks are performed (with the candidate's explicit permission)
  5. Work-permits and/or right-to-work status is validated (when required by local law)
  6. Medical clearance is obtained, including a drug test (where required and supported by local law)
  7. The job offer is presented to the successful candidate


Before officially joining the company, new employees receive onboarding materials including the ABB Group Code of Conduct. Employees must read and sign the document to declare that they understand the requirements, and will adhere to them. After signing the Code of Conduct, the employment contracts* will also be signed.
