In the month of February 2023 ABB published the 900th edition of ABB Review, the company’s technical journal. This journal has been in continuous publication since 1914 -- which makes it one of the longest-running corporate journals of any kind in the world. ABB Review is even “older” than Time Magazine for example.
Every quarter the journal presents ABB’s customer-driven innovations and technical breakthroughs that are transforming and reshaping industries. It covers technologies, products and complex solutions in both commercial and industrial contexts.
Articles in ABB Review are often written by engineers for engineers, particularly engineering customers. The articles in the 900th issue are hand-picked by the Chief Technology Officers of ABB’s four business areas to represent the most recent research and development breakthroughs that they see impacting customers’ business going forward. Besides being read in the as-published format, many articles have a second life by being re-published in trade journals and some find their way into university course material and textbooks.
The first edition was launched by Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC), one of ABB’s predecessor companies, in 1914 and titled BBC Review. A key pillar of ABB’s heritage, the Swedish company ASEA started a similar journal in 1924, named ASEA Journal. With the merger of ASEA and BBC in 1988, the two publications joined forces to form ABB Review. From the beginning, ABB Review supports the company's position as a technological leader and enhances ABB's reputation for technical and research excellence. An online version of ABB Review has been available since 2001. Today, the ABB Review has a global readership of almost 40,000 people interested in technology. It is published in English, German and Chinese. The latest edition of the ABB Review is available for free as both a download and a subscription at https://global.abb/group/en/technology/abb-review
